Glen Innes & District Historical Society Inc. has won the prestigious Department of Planning and Environment Crown Land Manager Excellence Award at the 2021 Community Achievement Awards for Regional NSW & the ACT. The winners were announced on Friday 11th February 2021 during the Online Presentation of Awards hosted by Sarah Navin, State Political Reporter, PRIME7.
Guests attended virtually from across NSW and the ACT to celebrate our regional achievers, including Melanie Hawyes, Deputy Secretary, Crown Lands and Local Government, Department of Planning and Environment representing the Hon. Kevin Anderson MP, NSW Minister for Lands and Water, Hospitality and Racing and Patron of the Awards.
“The Community Achievement Awards champion excellence in Crown land management, business innovation, leadership, customer service, and connecting communities,” Mr Anderson said. “Congratulations to all Award winners who have highlighted the leading efforts of individuals, communities and businesses in making our regions great and thriving places to live, work and raise a family.”
Glen Innes & District Historical Society Inc. won the Award from a strong field of nominations.
“Glen Innes & District Historical Society Inc. has been serving as the proper custodian of the cultural heritage of the Glen Innes & District community since 1968. The Historical Society functions as a community chronicle, recording and informing successive generations through artefacts, documents and records at the Land of the Beardies Museum History House Museum and Research Centre. The Land of the Beardies occupies the former Glen Innes & District Hospital, which is listed as a heritage building. Over the past three years, the Society has been actively engaged in repairing and refurbishing the buildings, storage facilities and display areas. The Society has 255 members.”
