Environmental sustainability a priority for Boambee Reserve foreshore

Visitors to Boambee Creek Reserve, just north of Sawtell on the Coffs Coast, are enjoying the water more than ever in the lead-up to summer, now that Reflections Holiday Parks has successfully completed beach nourishment works. The program of work to rejuvenate the foreshore was recently undertaken to combat the effects of cyclical erosion, which has affected the foreshore in recent years.

The beachfront at Boambee has been widened for enhanced recreational use. This has provided temporary coastal protection of important community infrastructure, including the access road boat ramp and multiple picnic shelters. This work has been essential in providing an interim increased defence while Reflections investigate what long-term protection strategies could look like.

Funded by the NSW Government’s Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF), the Boambee Creek foreshore remediation project incorporates a Coastal Process Study as well as the already completed beach nourishment works. The Coastal Process Study will be critical in determining long-term strategies and providing recommendations for new structures that could be utilised to reduce the frequency of erosion occurring every season at Boambee. It will also be invaluable for Reflections in applying for future grant funding.

The NSW Government’s contribution of more than $86,075 to this local project and Reflections’ commitment to the foreshore’s environmental sustainability, is important for the reserve’s longevity. Public recreation reserves like Boambee Creek are the pride of local communities and this investment will make sure that Boambee Creek shines when visited by hundreds of people each year.

Reflections Holiday Parks manages 37 holiday parks and 42 public recreation reserves, including Boambee Creek Reserve. Being a not-for-profit statutory land manager, all surplus profits are redirected back into the holiday parks, reserves and community open spaces they manage. Projects initiated by Reflections, like coastal erosion at Boambee Creek, ensure improved experiences for locals and tourists alike.
